Frequently asked questions

Do these planter boxes require assembly?

Assembly requirements vary by model. Review the product description and instructions to check the components, tools and setup required before ordering.

Can I put a raised garden bed on concrete or paving?

Suitability depends on the model. Check its base design, drainage requirements and installation instructions first. Open-bottomed beds may need additional measures to manage drainage and prevent growing mix from escaping onto the surface.

How much soil will I need to fill my garden box?

For a rectangular bed, multiply its internal length, width and intended fill depth in metres to estimate the volume in cubic metres. Multiply that figure by 1,000 for litres. Curved shapes require a different calculation, and the amount also depends on your chosen fill level.

What size raised garden bed should I choose?

Choose a size that fits your space and allows you to reach the planting area comfortably. Consider access from one or both sides, leave room for paths, and check that the bed is deep enough for your intended plants.

What is the difference between a planter box and a raised garden bed?

The terms are often used interchangeably, but construction varies. Some planters have a base, while many raised garden beds are open-bottomed and sit directly on the ground. Check the individual product specifications before choosing a location.

What are the materials for your planter boxes?

The planter boxes are made out of colorsteel processed steel panels and galvanised steel framing. Sturdy material for long-lasting support

What does 4 layout options and 9-in-1 mean?

For some of our planter boxes, you can choose from the different layout options to find the right size for you. Get the perfect size!

Do they come with a base?

They do not come with a base. However, if you plan to place it on surfaces like decking or concrete, we suggest making a base to keep the soil contained and protect the underlying surface.

Raised Garden Beds and Planter Boxes for NZ Homes

Create a dedicated space for vegetables, herbs and seasonal flowers with a raised garden bed or planter box. A defined growing area keeps your garden organised and lets you choose a soil mix suited to your plants.

Choosing a Garden Box for Your Space

Start by measuring the available area and allowing room to walk, water and harvest around your garden box. Compact planters can suit smaller outdoor spaces, while larger raised beds provide more planting room for a backyard vegetable garden.

Consider planting depth as well as width and length. Herbs and salad greens generally need less root space than larger vegetables, so choose a bed that suits what you want to grow.

Open-Bottom Beds or Elevated Planters?

Open-bottom raised garden beds sit over the ground, allowing roots to extend into the soil beneath. Prepare the site before installation and choose a position with suitable sunlight and drainage.

Elevated planter boxes lift the growing area higher, which can reduce bending when tending plants. For use on patios or decks, check the planter’s base, drainage and filled weight, and protect the surface beneath it.

Metal Raised Garden Beds

Metal garden beds offer an alternative to timber for an organised outdoor growing area. Compare each model’s dimensions, construction and assembly details to choose one that fits your garden layout.
